The main challenge in creating licensing products is trying to come up with a hugely successful idea that hits a very broad range of tastes. Then you have to choose the right colors, patterns, and produce it in a way that is flexible enough to be applied to a wide variety of materials, products and sizes. The Pop Paisley print collection I created for Cranston Village is universally appealing. It’s whimsical, happy, and a fitting launch for the a little girls room or boys. The happy paisley prints capture the fun loving spirit of sunny days while adding a colorful punch of vivid playful colors. As a home decor and textile designer, It's imperative that I be aware of all the trends in the gift market. When I'm shopping, I'm always on the lookout for what’s new out there. It's important to attend gift shows to see what manufacturers are designing, their styles, and their themes being sold. When I get back to my cozy little studio, I take all of that wonderful information and explore different styles, patterns and colors then combine them together creating a new collection of prints, products and patterns.

I have a special fondness for beautiful things that are faded, worn and well loved. Anything with a patina, old vintage lace, clothing, antiques made with elegance, care and detail are used as collectibles for my inspiration. Over the years, my passion for these shabby chic items has turned into a thriving business. Named after my love of vintage items, the Vintage Chic Holiday Collection is inspired by antique items, vintage furniture, old and used objects, as well as floral wall paintings and cottage holiday style decorating. Monsters, Aliens, and Ugly Critters Oh My!!!

Kids really do love monsters and having a monster birthday party is not just for Halloween – it's fun any time of the year ... so my main inspiration for this ugly monster theme came from these fun whimsical goofy monster cartoons above and crazy anime cartoons from Japan! There's nothing wild or scary about these guys – they definitely look like they're having a blast! I love bright colors, a great party and I absolutely love birthday cake! Above are some really cool monster party supplies, activities, cake and cupcake ideas to help you plan a delightful "Monster Party" that the kids will love. No need to worry they won't scare the kids!

Below is the result of my inspiration. I've designed the Alien Insect Party Collection along with a myriad of plush toys and home decor products for that crazy kid in all of us!

The Creative Personality

The Creative Personality: By Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

1. Creative people have a great deal of physical energy, but they're also often quiet and at rest. They work long hours, with great concentration, while projecting an aura of freshness and enthusiasm. It seems that their energy is internally generated, due more to their focused minds than to the superiority of their genes. They control their energy; it's not ruled by time. When necessary, they can focus it like a laser beam; when not, they immediately recharge their batteries. They consider the rhythm of activity followed by reflection very important for the success of their work. This is not a bio-rhythm inherited with their genes; it was learned by trial and error as a strategy for achieving their goals.

2. Creative people tend to be smart yet naive at the same time. It is probably true that what psychologists call the "g factor," meaning a core of general intelligence, is high among people who make important creative contributions. They exhibit the contrasting poles of wisdom and childishness. A certain immaturity, both emotional and mental, can go hand in hand with deepest insights. Furthermore,they seem able to use well two opposite ways of thinking: the convergent and the divergent. Convergent thinking is measured by IQ tests, and it involves solving well-defined, rational problems that have one correct answer. Divergent thinking leads to no agreed-upon solution. It involves fluency, or the ability to generate a great quantity of ideas; flexibility, or the ability to switch from one perspective to another.

3. Creative people combine playfulness and discipline, or responsibility and irresponsibility. There is no question that a playfully light attitude is typical of creative individuals. But this playfulness doesn't go very far without its antithesis, a quality of doggedness, endurance, perseverance. Despite the carefree air that many creative people affect, most of them work late into the night and persist when less driven individuals would not.

4. Creative people alternate between imagination and fantasy, and a rooted sense of reality. Great art and great science involve a leap of imagination into a world that is different from the present. The rest of society views these new ideas as fantasies without relevance to current reality. But the whole point of art and science is to go beyond what we know and create a new reality. This "escape" is not into a never-never land. What makes a novel idea creative is that once we see it, sooner or later we recognize that, strange as it is, it is true.

5. Creative people trend to be both extroverted and introverted. We're usually one or the other, either preferring to be in the thick of crowds or sitting on the sidelines and observing the passing show. In fact, in current psychological research, extroversion and introversion are considered the most stable personality traits that differentiate people from each other and that can be reliably measured. Creative individuals, on the other hand, seem to exhibit both traits simultaneously.

6. Creative people are humble and proud at the same time. It is remarkable to meet a talented person who you expect to be arrogant or supercilious, only to encounter self-deprecation and shyness instead. Their respect for the area in which they work makes them aware of the long line of previous contributions to it, putting their own in perspective.They're also aware of the role that luck played in their own achievements. And they're usually so focused on current challenges than that past accomplishments, no matter how outstanding. At the same time, they know that in comparison with others, they have accomplished a great deal. And this knowledge provides a sense of security.

7. Creative people, to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping. When tests of masculinity/femininity are given to young people, over and over one finds that creative and talented girls are more dominant and tough than other girls, and creative boys are more sensitive and less aggressive than their male peers. Creative individuals are more likely to have not only the strengths of their own gender but those of the other one, too.

8. Creative people are both rebellious and conservative. It is impossible to be creative without having first internalized an area of culture. So it's difficult to see how a person can be creative without being both traditional and conservative and at the same time rebellious and iconoclastic. Being only traditional leaves an area unchanged; constantly taking chanceswithout regard to what has been valued in the past rarely leads to novelty that is accepted as an improvement. But the willingness to take risks, to break with the safety of tradition, is also necessary.

9. Most creative people are very passionate about their work, yet they can be extremely objective about it as well. Without the passion, we soon lose interest in a difficult task. Yet without being objective about it, our work is not very good and lacks credibility.

10. Creative people's openness and sensitivity often exposes them to suffering and pain, yet also to a great deal of enjoyment. Being alone at the forefront of a discipline also leaves you exposed and vulnerable. Eminence invites criticism and often vicious attacks.Deep interest and involvement in obscure subjects often goes unrewarded, or even brings on ridicule. Divergent thinking is often perceived as deviant by the majority, and so the creative person may feel isolated and misunderstood. Perhaps the most difficult thing for creative individuals to bear is the sense of emptiness when, for some reason, they cannot create.Yet when a person is working in the area of his of her expertise, worries and cares fall away, replaced by a sense of bliss. Perhaps the most important quality, the one that is most consistently present in all creative individuals, is the ability to enjoy the process of creation for its own sake.

If you shop at Target, Papyrus, Bloomingdale's, Sears, Kohls, Walmart, Lowe’s, Jo-Ann Fabric, Barnes and Noble, and local gift shops you might have seen my art work on canvas prints, rugs, pillows, home decor items, fabric and paper goods. If you look discreetly you might see my name at the back of some groovy new greeting cards. If you have tiny tots they may be wearing some of my surface textile designs for CWD Kids and BYI. You might not know who I am but you might have seen some of my designs all around you! It's a blast traveling to the local department stores anonymously and seeing kids reactions to my creations. It is such a blast to see them enjoying the pillows, canvas prints and home decor products.

Posted today are some greeting cards that have been printed and sold by Gina B and Pictura. They are both wonderful companies to work for, they were he first two national companies to believe in my work and I am supremely grateful for their generosity in selecting so many designs from me since 2008. I found these lovely illustrations a few years ago and waned to share them with you. Positive Affirmations are a very popular, proven and effective method of Life-enhancement. The method for receiving affirmative messages is visual rather than auditory and is one of the quickest route to the sub-conscious.

As visual designer for different media, I believe that you can control your own neural programing and enhance your life with positive messages which in turn generate positive results. Simply being exposed to positive messages on a regular basis enhances mood, and neural networks in the brain.

Welcome to my new line of custom covers entitled " Les Jardins" specifically designed for the iPhone 3G, 4 and all Apple Mac Laptops including Pro 13, 15, Pro 17 etc. The new line of versitale designs for the iPhone 4 cover the front and back of the device, giving it both style and scratch protection. Optional covers also cover the sides of the iPhone 4 with the desired design, making users able to opt out of side coverage if they want to showcase the phone’s metal frame. All protective covers are removable using patented 3M adhesive, which prevents air bubbles from forming and allows for easy application. It is a blast to design these for my customers! Enjoy!

There's been a flurry of activity here at UrbanDigits! We're working on an eco friendly clothing line that encompasses natural eco packaging. The product line is designed with florals and earth friendly images made from recycled materials and vegetable based fabric dye, offering environmentally friendly natural fiber products. In researching lines of eco products over the last few months we wanted the new clothing and home decor line to support the environment by using as many earth friendly, green products as possible; by recycling every item we possibly can. I had the opportunity to capture some display photos with my iphone at our local Target store on Route 1 near Princeton. I actually love the 3D displays more than the merchandise itself. The displays are a cross between Alice in a Crazy Souped Up Multi Printed Wonderland and a throw back to the 60's Twiggy London Scene. Yes, I'm old enough to reference the 60's and remember all those bold pop art prints! Check the displays out below...very Austin Powers man and extremely happy in a tough time!

I'm in the mood for something cheerful this time of year. Something that's a little unusual, a little daring, a little fun, fresh and modern. Here are some home decor products that I created hoping that they evoke a little ray of permanent sunshine! My bedspreads, comforters and rugs have large scale floral and nature inspired patterns juxtaposed with stripes or two toned geometrics. Mixing in solid neutrals tone down the trend for those who want just a touch of color. By this time, everyone has heard about the devastation in Haiti. People all over the world are doing their part to send their support in whatever way they can. And our craft community is no different.

Crafters are some of the nicest people I know. Our community seems to accept everyone, make room for everyone, no matter what their level of expertise. The community also has some pretty big hearts and some have found a way to work within their resources to do what they can to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

And you can be a part of it.

A group of crafters have created their own Etsy store at Craft Hope for Haiti. Dozens of people have donated their products to the site and 100% of the proceeds goes to Doctors Without Borders for Haiti Relief. The prices are reasonable and the giving feels good

Indie Fixx is holding a Haiti Relief Fundraiser. There are new additions daily that you can bid on and know that should you win the bid, you can feel great about 100% of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross to help them reach their 1 million relief goal.

During the bleakest months of the year, countless Americans venture out to adorn their lawns and houses in a festive display for the season. Elaborate decorations offer an excuse for long holiday joyrides after dark to see lights, reindeer, sleighs and neighborhood displays on a winter’s night. It’s that time of year again, homemade cookies are baking and fireplaces are crackling all across the nation. There’s a chill with a scent of chimney smoke in the air, and freshly cut evergreens everywhere.

Below are a few of my designs for an outdoor home decor company that I designed over six months ago.

I am thrilled to announce that Paper Magic Group is selecting a series of my retro vintage 40's and 50's inspired Christmas cards from the Emanations series! The retro series will be distributed through independent card and gift shops. Below is a sample of some concepts still unlicensed.

The more stressful our lives become in the current financial situation, the perceived threat of global warming etc, the more we return to the comforting nostalgia of the past. This is particularly so regarding music, art, clothing, and food. The use of "retro" style iconography and imagery interjected into post-modern art, advertising, mass media, etc. has occurred from the industrial revolution to present day.

Retro” can be used to simply mean “old fashioned” or “timeless” or “classic”. Most commonly, “retro” is used to describe objects and attitudes from the past that no longer seem “modern.” It suggests a fundamental shift in the way we relate to the past. “Retro” has been called an “unsentimental nostalgia,” recalling “modern” forms that are no longer current. " Today it is often used in a positive sense, referring to quirky or attractive products that are no longer available for example, "Retro fashion" or "Retro Chic". A love of retro objects (things from the past) is called retrophilia.

I had the distinct pleasure of receiving an email from Glen Abrams, president of Kids-Did-It! He emailed me the latest news fresh from the oven! Kids-Did-It! Designs¨ recently introduced The Kids-Did-It! Cookie Bookie, an adorable cookie-baking cookbook illustrated by kids. The Kids-Did-It! Cookie Bookie, is a fun Cookie-Baking Cookbook for Kids, Illustrated by Kids! The playfully designed picture/cookbook is a unique introduction to baking.

Each recipe is delightfully illustrated with animals or other imaginative watercolors from the Kids-Did-It! Designs¨ kids’ art collection featuring artwork made by young art students, ages 3 to 14; most created under the guidance of San Diego Author, Artist and Art Instructor, Michelle Abrams. In addition to the pride and satisfaction of becoming published artists, each student represented in the Kids-Did-It! collection also earns royalties for the reproduction of their artwork. As a teacher for nearly 20 years, Michelle has shared her contagious love for the arts bringing out the best from her enthusiastic young students. The resulting images are fresh, cute, exuberant,often humorous and quite inspirational – with many worthy of being called ‘fine art’ in the tradition of Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso or Miro.
